To support an ever growing customer base in Europe, Highwinds has tapped Shawn Owens as Director, European Sales.
Owens previously served as Highwinds’ Sr. Solutions Engineer based in San Francisco, CA.
Owens brings more than 20 years of experience building and leading tech companies in Silicon Valley. He’s served in C-level and engineering roles in product development, deployment, engineering and sales.
During his time he’s experienced the full spectrum of startup fates from failure to tremendous growth, including successful liquidity events. At one company, which was acquired for $215M, Owens recorded the first sale, acting as the sales engineer, sales representative, trainer and customer support.
In his new role, Owens is based in Amsterdam, Netherlands and leads a team located throughout Europe. He will bolster an already-strong presence in Amsterdam as Highwinds already maintains a network operations center (NOC) and point of presence (PoP) in the Dutch capital.
Highwinds supports hundreds of customers headquartered in Europe, as well as those located in North America, South America and Asia that deliver heavy amounts of online traffic to the region. The Highwinds RollingThunder network includes PoPs in Brussels, Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Paris and Stockholm, as well as Amsterdam where the company is one of the largest peers at AMS-IX (Amsterdam Internet Exchange).
Highwinds CDN performs particularly well throughout Europe due to its robust peering infrastructure. Over 95% of traffic delivered via the CDN in Europe is delivered over direct peer connections with ISP’s and MSO’s, putting customers’ content just one hop away from their end users.
