Two-factor authentication and IP whitelist are two extra layers of security that can help you easily secure your online accounts, and they’re now available for Highwinds StrikeTracker. The story is simple: you use passwords to access all kinds of sensitive information every day. Using a password alone isn’t enough to secure your data anymore. Passwords are increasingly difficult to protect on their own, and no matter how many different passwords you manage, your data can easily be compromised.
How Two-Factor Authentication and IP Whitelist Works
Two-factor authentication, or 2FA, requires you to prove you are who you say you are by combining two unique factors.
- There’s the thing that you know: your password.
- Then there’s something unique that you have: like your smartphone or other device.
By combining your password with your smartphone, even if your password is compromised, a hacker still cannot access your data.
2FA requires you to enter a one-time code generated on your smartphone, by a token, or sent to you via text message at login. Even if a user has the password to access your account, they’d still also need your mobile device to get in.
IP Whitelist is even simpler and allows you to restrict account access based on a specific set of pre-determined IP addresses or blocks defined by you.
