StrikeTracker Reporting and Analytics

Reporting and Analytics

One of the most revolutionary features in the StrikeTracker
console is its ability to show real-time analytics about all
types of content, including live events in progress. And
while some would argue that the term “real-time” has
been much overused in describing technology and should
be taken with a grain of salt, we’re proud to put an
emphasis on the “real-time” in “real-time analytics,”
because that’s precisely what StrikeTracker delivers. In
fact, we believe that’s the important part. Analytical data
available in real time allows for informed decision-making
and timely change management, thereby affecting
customer experience and the customer’s perception
of your business.

StrikeTracker provides byte-accurate analytics within 15 to 30 seconds of actual content delivery. With other CDNs, the report generation process generally consists of collecting raw server logs at the edge and hauling them back to a central location for batch processing. Because their logging solutions are batch-based, the best case delay is 15 minutes, and large traffic spikes degrade the best case significantly. We are very skilled at building systems that maintain near-instant functionality while scaling to accommodate massive loads during peak periods.

Key metrics available in StrikeTracker include total transfer, transfer rate, completion ratio, duration and hits.

Reporting Features

  • Generate statistical data and view graphic-rich, easy-to-use charts and reports.
  • Filter data according to date range – from real time up to the past 18 months.
  • Change graph configurations to view data according to your visual preferences.
  • View at-a-glance how your most popular content is being consumed.
  • Select a region (from a list or a map) to analyze regional usage data.
  • Use the global view to see where your content is getting hot.
  • Download raw activity logs, formatted according to industry standards.
  • During live events view concurrent users, geographic data, and more.
Our real-time analytics also assist us in billing. When we were planning our CDN, we recognized that a common complaint in the industry is that the reporting data and the billing data frequently didn’t match. We realized that we could improve this situation by building our billing system directly on top of our analytics system. This means you not only have byte-accurate reporting in StrikeTracker, but you also have byte-accurate billing data.
