35th Annual People's Choice Awards Highwinds partnered with Incited Media to deliver live streaming video of the 35th Annual People's Choice Awards on January 7th. Hundreds of thousands of streams were successfully delivered to online audiences tapping into extensive coverage of red carpet events, backstage interviews and post-show festivities. This was the first time backstage cameras were used to generate online video of the People's Choice Awards. This enabled the availability of a wealth of behind-the-scenes footage not seen on the televised broadcast and not available online in prior years. All live streams were produced in real time by Incited Media, alongside the traditional broadcast coverage on CBS, and delivered over the Highwinds CDN to broadband viewers. "We were streaming several concurrent videos from 13 different cameras, and Highwinds kept pace with our quick production and engineering timeline throughout the evening."
- Joe Einstein
Co-Founder of Incited Media
"We were very pleased with the online viewership for this year's awards show. We stepped up the online coverage this year to give our broadcast viewers the opportunity to see more of the behind-the-scenes footage while the awards ceremony was underway. Incited Media and Highwinds, partnered with our digital production team, delivered an online experience that was both entertaining and easy to use."

Highwinds and Octoshape Partner for Inauguration and More On January 20, 2009, the world waited in anticipation for the swearing-in and inaugural address of the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama. Highwinds had done the planning, the media company had done the marketing, and the audience was definitely coming. On that day, the Highwinds CDN recorded the following inauguration-specific numbers:
- 3.78 million hours of streaming video served
- 7.8 million live sessions
- Over 625,000 concurrent viewers
- 310+ Gbps of bandwidth during the peak delivery time
- 1.88 million CUME (cumulative unique viewers) watched for more than 5 minutes
- 30 minute average session time (other CDNs reported less than 5 minutes)
- 1 hour 34 minutes average unique user time As a result of the partnership between Highwinds, Octoshape and Adobe, viewers watching the inaugural events online enjoyed high-quality live video streamed over the Highwinds CDN and via peers utilizing the Octoshape technology. This solution is rooted in a partnership established last fall, at which time the companies announced a Hybrid P2P CDN solution for streaming live events to millions of concurrent viewers. The integration creates a hybrid service that includes the operational expertise, dedicated server resources and simplified integration process expected from a top tier CDN - with the scaling benefits achieved through Peer-to-Peer technology. Based on the success of the live streaming of these high-profile political events and other mutual achievements, the partners continue to promote their solution and support customers who demand the best in reliability and scalability when it comes to bringing live events online.
